Mensa – a new restaurant in the village of Panagia
Mensa is a new restaurant located in the picturesque mountain village of Panagia (Pano Panagia) in the Paphos district. Panagia is considered one of the most authentic villages of the region and is known as the birthplace of Cyprus’ first president, Archbishop Makarios III. Surrounded by vineyards, almond and olive groves, the village attracts visitors with its stone houses, narrow streets and peaceful rural atmosphere, making it a popular destination for day trips from Paphos.
The village lies in the foothills of the Troodos Mountains and forms part of the Paphos wine region. Traditional life is still preserved here, and local wineries, taverns and family businesses welcome travellers who wish to discover the real countryside of Cyprus away from the busy coastal resorts.
It is in this setting that the restaurant Mensa opened its doors and quickly became one of the most interesting new gastronomic projects in the area. The restaurant was created by chef Yiannakis Agapiou, a well-known figure in Cypriot gastronomy with more than forty years of professional experience. During his career he worked in Cyprus and abroad, held senior positions in restaurants and hotel projects, co-founded and later served as president of the Cyprus Chefs Association, and represented Cypriot cuisine at international events.
The name Mensa comes from the Latin word meaning “table” and reflects the main idea of the concept – sharing food, conversation and hospitality. The philosophy of the restaurant is based on respect for Cypriot culinary traditions and the use of fresh, high-quality local ingredients, many of which are supplied by small farmers and producers from the surrounding villages.
The menu changes regularly according to the seasons and focuses on simplicity, natural flavours and balanced combinations. Guests can taste traditional Cypriot dishes presented in a modern style, along with creative interpretations of local recipes. The selection includes fresh salads, local cheeses and olives, seasonal vegetables and carefully prepared main courses based on meat and poultry.
Special attention is given to regional wines and a carefully selected wine list that highlights the character of the Paphos wine region. Dining at Mensa is designed not only as a culinary experience, but also as an opportunity to enjoy the calm rhythm of village life in a truly authentic setting.
The interior combines traditional stone elements with modern design details, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. During the warmer months guests can sit in the inner courtyard and enjoy their meal in the fresh mountain air. The relaxed ambience makes the restaurant suitable both for leisurely lunches and quiet evening dinners.
Mensa is located at Chrysoroyiatissis Street 12, Panagia, Paphos and has already become a recommended stop on gastronomic routes through the mountain villages of Paphos. It is often suggested to visitors who wish to discover genuine Cypriot flavours in a refined yet unpretentious environment.
Thanks to its concept, location and professional approach, Mensa has quickly established itself as one of the most promising new restaurants in the wider Paphos area, combining tradition, creativity and true Cypriot hospitality.
