Philosophy for Teenagers in Paphos – P4C Programme from the USA
A university-level P4C programme from the USA is now available in Cyprus. The second intake of the 9Rome educational programme has opened in Paphos, based on the Philosophy for Children (P4C) approach.
P4C is used in universities and educational programmes in the United States and focuses on developing critical thinking, argumentation, ethical analysis and confident communication. The 9Rome programme adapts this approach for teenagers aged 13 to 18.
What is P4C
Philosophy for Children is a practical philosophy approach that teaches students not to memorise answers, but to think, ask meaningful questions and justify their opinions. This format helps teenagers better understand themselves, other people and the world around them.
P4C programmes in the United States, including those used in universities such as California State University, develop skills in analysing arguments, logical reasoning and ethics. 9Rome offers the opportunity to develop these skills earlier, during the teenage years. There are no similar school-format programmes of this type in Cyprus.
