What Tourists Miss After Leaving Cyprus
We decided to find out what tourists and former residents miss the most after leaving Cyprus and analysed the answers from a recent survey among travellers. There were hundreds of responses, and many of them repeated the same themes.
Below are the most common answers mentioned by people most often.
“Everything” - the most popular answer
The absolute leader was the answer “everything”. Many people admitted that they could not single out just one thing and missed Cyprus as a whole rather than individual details.
Cyprus is hard to break down into separate elements - it is perceived as a single whole. The sea, the sun, the food, the people and the rhythm of life merge into one overall feeling that people want to return to.
Sun, weather and warmth
One of the most frequent answers was related to the climate. Mild weather, plenty of sunny days and warm evenings are what many people miss the most after returning to colder countries.
Many noted that they start missing the Cypriot sun almost immediately after leaving.
Sea and beaches
The warm, clear sea, swimming and walks by the water were also mentioned very often. People especially remembered early morning swims and the colour of the sea.
For many, the sea in Cyprus is not just part of a holiday, but part of everyday life.
Food and drinks
Cypriot cuisine plays a special role in tourists’ memories. Most often, people said they missed the following food and drinks:
- halloumi
- souvlaki and souvla
- gyros
- koupes
- local beer and cocktails
- frappé and iced coffee
- bread and bakery products
Many people noted that even similar dishes in other countries do not feel the same as food enjoyed in Cyprus.
People and relationships
A large number of answers were related to people. Most often mentioned were Cypriots, friends, family, as well as friendliness and hospitality.
For many, Cyprus is first and foremost about people and relationships, not just a place on the map.
Lifestyle and inner feelings
Lifestyle was another important topic. People wrote about a relaxed pace of life, a sense of freedom, less stress and a feeling of inner calm.
Many noted that Cyprus is a place where they can slow down and feel truly comfortable.
Cats
Cyprus cats were mentioned surprisingly often. For many, they became part of the island’s atmosphere and a warm memory of their trip.
Conclusion
Cyprus is not just a holiday destination. For many, it becomes part of their life, a home and a place of strength that they start missing as soon as they leave.
It is this feeling that makes people return to the island again and again.
