July 2026 Ranked Among Cyprus' Hottest Julys on Record
July 2026 ranked among the ten hottest Julys in Cyprus since meteorological records began in 1968. Although the month did not set a new temperature record, it became one of the warmest Julys of recent decades.
Hot Weather Throughout the Month
During July, residents and visitors experienced prolonged periods of high temperatures across Cyprus. The Department of Meteorology regularly issued heat warnings, particularly for inland areas where daytime temperatures approached 40°C.
The Paphos district also experienced consistently hot weather. For example, on 29 July the Department of Meteorology recorded temperatures of 34°C at Paphos Airport and 38°C in Polis Chrysochous.
The Hottest Time of the Year in Cyprus
Mid-July to mid-August is traditionally the hottest period of the year in Cyprus. High daytime temperatures, almost no rainfall and long hours of sunshine are typical during this time.
Coastal areas, including Paphos, are usually slightly cooler than inland regions thanks to the sea breeze, while temperatures in central parts of the island are often several degrees higher.
Staying Safe During Hot Weather
During periods of extreme heat, it is recommended to avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during the hottest hours of the day, drink plenty of water and use appropriate sun protection. Extra care should be taken for children, older adults and anyone spending long periods outdoors.
Despite the high temperatures, summer remains the most popular tourist season in Cyprus. Many visitors prefer to spend the daytime at the beach and enjoy walks, outdoor dining and local events during the cooler evening hours after sunset.
