Paphos Prepares for the Winter Tourism Season
Paphos is actively preparing for the upcoming winter tourist season as Cyprus continues to strengthen its strategy to attract visitors all year round. Local authorities and tourism organisations are promoting the region as a year-round destination, highlighting its mild climate, rich cultural heritage and growing interest in wellness and gastronomy tourism.
More than 10,000 accommodation facilities, including hotels, apartments and holiday villas, are expected to remain open until the end of December 2025. This allows visitors to enjoy comfortable holidays even during the cooler months, when temperatures remain mild and sunny days are frequent.
The winter season brings a special atmosphere to Paphos. Without the summer crowds, the city becomes calmer and more relaxed, offering travellers the opportunity to explore its historical sites and natural landscapes at a comfortable pace. Beaches are quieter, prices are often lower, and many restaurants, cafés and cultural venues continue to operate, especially in the Old Town and the Kato Paphos area.
Paphos is well known for its archaeological heritage, including the Paphos Archaeological Park, the Tombs of the Kings and the medieval harbour castle. Winter is an ideal time to visit these landmarks, as cooler temperatures make sightseeing more pleasant and allow visitors to fully enjoy the historical atmosphere of the city.
The region is also promoting alternative forms of tourism during the winter months. Interest in wellness retreats, spa holidays, gastronomy tours and village experiences continues to grow. Local markets, traditional taverns and small villages across the Paphos district offer authentic Cypriot cuisine and a warm, welcoming environment.
Nature lovers can explore the Troodos Mountains and nearby villages, which are especially picturesque in winter. Hiking, countryside drives and visits to traditional mountain communities are popular activities during this season, providing a different perspective on Cyprus beyond the coastline.
For local residents, the extended tourist season creates new opportunities in hospitality, retail and cultural services. For visitors, winter in Paphos offers a rare chance to experience the island without peak-season crowds, while still enjoying sunshine, sea views and a relaxed Mediterranean lifestyle.
With its combination of mild weather, cultural attractions, developed infrastructure and year-round hospitality, Paphos continues to position itself as one of the most attractive winter destinations in Cyprus and the eastern Mediterranean.
