Paphos Airport Undergoing Major Renovation
At the beginning of 2025, a large-scale reconstruction project started at Paphos International Airport, becoming one of the most important infrastructure developments in the region in recent years. The total investment in the modernisation amounts to approximately €75 million, with completion scheduled for the end of 2026.
The main goal of the project is to increase the terminal’s passenger capacity by around 30 percent. Once the works are completed, Paphos Airport will be able to handle up to 5 million passengers per year, compared to 3.6 million passengers recorded in 2024. This expansion will allow the airport to accommodate the growing number of visitors and improve overall service quality.
The modernisation includes a significant expansion of the terminal facilities. A new passport control area will be added, along with four additional baggage belts. These upgrades are designed to improve passenger flow, speed up baggage handling and reduce waiting times, especially during peak travel periods.
Special attention is being given to the improvement of security and immigration control areas. The automatic passport control system (ABC Gates) will be upgraded, providing faster and more convenient processing for passengers of all categories, including European Union citizens and international travellers.
In addition to terminal upgrades, the project includes the expansion of the taxiway infrastructure. The extension of the southern parallel taxiway will improve aircraft movement efficiency, reduce congestion on the airfield and help minimise flight delays.
After completion, Paphos Airport is expected to become one of the key transport hubs in Cyprus, capable of handling significantly higher passenger volumes. This development is particularly important as Cyprus continues to promote year-round tourism and expand international flight connections.
The reconstruction forms part of the broader development strategy for the airports of Paphos and Larnaca, aimed at increasing their combined annual capacity to 17 million passengers. The project is financed and managed by Hermes Airports, the operator of Cyprus’s main international airports.
The modernisation is designed to meet long-term infrastructure needs up to 2040. The upgraded airport is expected to play a crucial role in strengthening Paphos as a leading destination in the Eastern Mediterranean and supporting the continued growth of tourism on the island.
