Opening Ceremony of the 1st Festival of Culture & Folklore

Official Opening of the Festival of Culture & Folklore in Paphos The 1st Festival of Culture & Folklore in Paphos officially opens on Friday, 14 November 2025, at 19:00 at the Markideio Municipal Theatre. The event is organised by the Municipality of Paphos in cooperation with the “Paphos – Greek Twin Cities” network. The aim of the festival is to strengthen the cultural ties between Paphos and its twin cities in Greece, celebrating shared traditions through dance, music, and folklore. Visitors will enjoy a colourful journey into the heritage of Cyprus and Greece, featuring traditional costumes, authentic instruments, and captivating performances. The opening night will showcase performances by: Lamia: The Lyceum of Greek Women of Lamia, the Cultural Association “Agios Athanasios,” and the Educational Association of Kalivia Lamias “Agios Georgios.” Kalamaria: The Pontian Association of Kalamaria, the Caucasus Association of Kalamaria “Promitheas,” the Pontian Cultural Association of Kalamaria “Mithrioi,” and the Brotherhood “Kromnai.” Chania (Crete): The Folklore Group “Yiannis Agiasmenakis.” Paphos: The Folklore Club “Laografikos Omilos Ktima,” presenting the traditional music and dances of Cyprus. Throughout the weekend (14–16 November 2025), Paphos will turn into a lively crossroads of cultures. Streets, squares and public spaces will be filled with music, dance and celebration, bringing people together from across Greece and Cyprus. A highlight of the festival will be the Folk Parade on Saturday, 15 November, where all participating groups will perform through the streets of Paphos, ending with a large open-air “folk fiesta” at Kennedy Square, uniting performers and the audience in one joyful celebration. In addition, a photo exhibition will present the history and cultural heritage of the twin cities network, featuring rare archival material and visual stories from Lamia, Kalamaria, Chania, and Paphos. The Festival of Culture & Folklore is expected to become an annual event, promoting Paphos as a city of tradition, creativity, and cultural exchange. Admission is free.
